Three generations of the Mitchell’s family have devoted their time and effort to providing the Upland area with plumbing, heating, and cooling services of unquestionable quality and in the process have built a reputation far beyond the boundaries of the community.
Allen T. Mitchell had been servicing plumbing in the area since he moved from Illinois in 1921 and found work at Mehl’s Hardware located downtown. In March 1938, he and his son, Ellsworth, formed the present business known as Allen T. Mitchell & Son, Inc. In 1942, they purchased the property in downtown Upland where their retail store is currently located. Allen T. retired in 1954 and served in an advisory capacity until his death in 1975.
Ellsworth successfully managed the business for the next 23 years until he turned over to the active management to his sons, Allen and Tom. Ellsworth retired for good in 1988 after 50 years of service to the community.
Both Allen and Tom began plumbing with their father Ellsworth before they entered school and were running jobs before they even had a driver’s license. Allen and Tom are both proud of all the lessons they’ve learned of honesty and integrity from their father and grandfather.
With their continued focus on customer service and quality performance, it appears that Mitchell’s will be around for awhile longer.
